On March 16th 2013, Amsterdam Gaelic Athletic Club hosted an Invitational Tournament and were delighted to welcome teams from Europe and the UK to take part and celebrate this significant milestone with us.
The footballing spectacle on offer was truly befitting of marking such an occasion. With Men’s and Ladies football and Men’s hurling competitions taking place it was a great way to celebrate not only our 10 year Anniversary but also of course Lá Fhéile Pádraig.
In the Men’s football, it was a very tough competition throughout the group stages between Amsterdam, Belgium and Eire Og London. Amsterdam and Belgium contested the final in which Belgium took an early lead. The Brussels boys maintained that advantage until the final whistle to take the honors.
Stand out performers for Amsterdam on the day were from midfielder Martin McClean(Player Of The Tournament), Sean Fitzgerald in defense and Gerry Sheridan at full forward.
In the ladies’ football, it was another competitive tournament throughout with Holland Ladies, Belgium Ladies, Oisin CLG Manchester and Holloway Gaels London all taking part. See Ladies Tournament Report for details ...
Amsterdam managed to get the better of local rivals, Den Haag in the hurling competition, demonstrating the great strides the hurlers are making already this season under the new training regime !!!
We would like to thank all the teams for taking part, especially Eire Og CLG, Heston Gaels and Holloway Gaels for making the trip across the water.
Also a word of thanks to our guest referees, Hugh Coghlan from Tipperary club, Moyne-Templetouhy and Sean MacIntyre from Tyrone club, Strabane Sigersons for helping make the tournament possible.
