Amsterdam Shield Take Third, but stay Top

The Amsterdam Shield team came into the Belgium tournament on the back of two tournament wins in Amsterdam and Den Haag, and holding an eight match undefeated record. However with a depleted squad due to numerous injuries to both the Amsterdam Shield and Championship team, the Shield team struggled to fill all 11 starting positions.

Despite valiant efforts, the team faced up to their first defeats of the season against the home side Belgium, and the vastly improved and strengthened Dusseldorf.

The Shield team went into their final match against Belgium knowing that they had to win, to retain their position on top of the overall Shield table. Although being four points down at half time, the team gathered a hold on the game in the second half, led by star performer Ronan O’Riordan in midfield, and fought back to win by two points.

The win left Amsterdam on top of the Shield table on 65 points, closely followed by Belgium with 60 points, with only one tournament remaining in Maastricht on July 28th! Well done to all, in particular, our debutants, Ahmed, Niall, and Ronan.
